GRAND CANYON, Ariz. - Tom Martin has a lot of experience in and around the Grand Canyon. He's been hiking and river rafting in the national park since 1969, served as the co-founder and first president of the Grand Canyon Private Boaters Association, and even participated in the first succesful ascent of the last unclimbed "top 10" butte in Grand Canyon, among other achievements. He is also the author of "Day Hikes from the River," called the first hiking guide for Grand Canyon River Runners.

On March 25, from 6-8 p.m. at the Grand Canyon Recreation Center, Martin will present original 16 mm footage of river running in the Grand Canyon, shot between the years 1955 to 1959. The presentation is part of the Grand Canyon Youth Movie Night, part of the non-profit Grand Canyon Youth organization, which provides an expiriential education along the rivers and canyons of the southwest to promote environmental awareness. A donation of $10 is suggested for the presentation, with proceeds going to the Grand Canyon Youth organization. Drinks and popcorn will also be provided. Anyone who cannot attend the screening, but would like to donate, can send a check specifying Grand Canyon, GCY to Grand Canyon Youth, 2131 N. First St., No. B, Flagstaff, AZ. 86004.

The screening will include 45 minutes of rafting past Boulder Narrows in 1957, the Phantom Ranch swimming pool, hiking at Lava Falls and more. Martin will also make a presentation at Cline Library March 24 beginning at 7 p.m. as part of the Canyon Country Community Lecture Series.
