ADOT project nearing completion, new town staff members

Mayor of Tusayan

Greetings Tusayan & Grand Canyon area residents:

I trust everyone is enjoying the warm weather and being cautious about the fire issues. The town has adopted the Forest Service's guidelines and restrictions unless they are lifted by the Tusayan Fire Chief, so please make yourself aware of them and help us have a safe summer season. Please be careful with those cigarettes and no open flames until further notice.

The ADOT project is moving ahead rather quickly and they are shooting to be done by mid-June with most everything. It will look great, slow down traffic, provide greater safety and present a whole new image for our community. While it has been a big inconvenience for us and our guests, the end result will have been well worth the frustrations. Thank you to the Fann Construction & ADOT teams for being sensitive to our needs for access and moving as fast as they can to complete it. If you are wondering about the work being done on the west side of the northern round-a-bout, it is the construction of the parking area for the new Greenway trail into the Park. It will have room for around 100 cars and a special area for horse trailer parking as well. It is intended for those who want to walk, run, ride their bikes or their horses into the Park, but no motorized vehicles will be allowed on the trail. Folks will still need Park passes and they can either buy them at the locations in town or at the entrance booths on their way into the Park.

The Park/Tusayan shuttle buses are underway from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. each day on roughly 15 minute intervals. When the highway construction is complete the shuttle bus stops will be better identified than the current situation. While we have construction going on, the stops will be moved periodically as they rip up asphalt, so please be patient. Please advise guests to look for changes. The shuttle is a great way for guests and residents to go into and return from the Park, so please encourage your customers and staff to use it. Remember, the ride is free but you must have a park entrance pass before boarding the bus. Residents are free but will need some means of identifying they are locals, such as a company ID or a driver's license. A letter from their employer can also be used.

The town council is happy to announce the arrival of two new team members. Tami Ryall and Laura Matthews have joined the staff as Interim Town Manager and Clerk respectively. Both come with strong municipal experience in their fields and we are excited about the leadership they bring to our town ddministration. They will be in the town hall from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Thursdays, so stop in and introduce yourself and share your thoughts with them. It will take some time to get up to speed with things, so be patient, but they want to help. The council will start working on our next year's town budget tonight in a workshop, as well as hear from our housing study team about their progress. The housing team will be sending out a simple survey to begin gathering information about current situations and future needs. Please respond if you get a survey and help us move forward in planning for affordable housing needs.

The council is working with the school district in trying to move the Tusayan Community Park project ahead. The team is trying to have a basketball court in this year as well as prepare for future phases. The council is putting up funds and is happy to see others committing funds as well to make it a truly community project. As the town allocates its funds we are trying to use them in a way that benefits as many residents as possible and to be financially responsible in our expenditures as we look to future needs as well.

As always we welcome your input to the council and ideas on how we can build our community into the best it can be. Thank you for your continued support.

Respectfully,

Greg Bryan

Bob, perhaps Stilo's local representative in Tusayan could assist the town in this project and save the town some money and time

Another Housing Survey??? Wasn't the inadequate housing situation the platform for your election campaign almost two years ago? Didn't you already determine the "current situation" was substandard and the "future needs" were more housing options now?
Why donít you create something productive like a survey to determine if you even need another survey?
The people of Tusayan would probably take a boxcar right now if they could simply own it!
