Guest column: With the recall election behind us it's time to move forward

Greg Bryan
Mayor town of Tusayan

Greetings Tusayan & Grand Canyon Residents:

Looks like we have been able to weather a number of storms this last week and the town is better for it. While we have gotten some of the much needed moisture that will help keep down wild fires, we still need more and hope the next few weeks will bring it.

Vice-Mayor Montoya and I would like to thank all of the residents who worked hard to defeat our recall this last week. We recognize what is expected of us to keep the town moving forward to realize our housing dreams and to do so with respect. We don't all have to agree, however, we can disagree with respect and try to hear what the other side is saying. The majority of this Council is committed to taking that higher road in representing your needs and wants.

This last week we met with several different companies in regard to improving our Internet services here in Tusayan. CenturyLink basically said they were not interested in investing the money to meet our needs. Three other companies are identifying the options and are coming back to us with costs and timelines. We are encouraged about the possibilities each of these companies presents for all of us.

We also have renewed conversations with a company that has built thousands of affordable homes in destination locations similar to the Grand Canyon area. We had talked with them and reviewed several of their projects years ago, when we were researching incorporation and its impacts in Colorado. We found their projects well thought through and of good quality. We will be having some discussions soon with them on types and costs of affordable housing that might work in our situation. We will keep you updated.

Come join us tonight in our second council meeting in the new Town Hall at 6 p.m. We are working to complete things and are almost ready to move in full time. We have had several community workshop meetings there and it looks like it will meet some of our needs.

Respectfully,

Greg Bryan

Untill both sides give up their "scorched earth" style of operating - we will never move past it...It would be nice if the Thurstons and Stillo actually sat down to see if an accomodation was possible
