Greetings friends and coworkers:
Mt. Rainier Ranger, Margaret Anderson, was killed in the line of duty on the first of the year, leaving behind her two little girls, ages one and three, as well as her husband. It is not often that the Park Service family looses one of our Rangers to violence. It has hit our community hard. I did not know her, however, many of my coworkers and friends do. I am involved because I think we are a family. I also really enjoy networking/fundraising.
The Grand Canyon community has been working diligently to raise some funds to be donated to the accounts set up for the family (Edenville, WA Key Bank, and the National Park Foundation's trust in the families name). We have already thrown a burrito fundraiser, with the food donated by Delaware North (General Store) and are planning an Italian Dinner with silent auction, free babysitting, and quilt making for the girls, on the 23rd of this month.
We have also set up an eBay auction site, with many donated items, including sports tickets, art, jewelry, rare coins, crafts, gift certificates, services and even a tandem kayak and a vintage tandem bicycle! Most of the auction items will be up through some point this Thursday, however, some items are up on a different schedule. Due to eBay regulations, we are not allowed to post the donated hotel vouchers, but they will be up for bid locally at our Italian Dinner. Please check out the auction at:
Auction updates will be posted on our Facebook Event Page: www.facebook.com/events/222913257799260/ (you do not need a Facebook account to view this link).
For more information, please visit the Officer Down Memorial Page at www.odmp.org/officer/21076-park-ranger-margaret-anderson.
The silent auction items include:
two night stay at Zion Lodge, Zion NP, UT (donated by Xanterra);
two night stay at Furnace Creek Ranch, Death Valley (donated by Xanterra);
two night stay & Bus Tour at the Maswik, South Rim, Grand Canyon (donated by Xanterra);
one night stay for 2 persons in a Deluxe Suite, Continental Breakfast at Best Western Squire Inn, including dinner for two and a bottle of house wine in the Coronado Room, Tusayan (donated by Greg Bryan of Squire Inn); and
one night stay at The Grand Hotel, Tusayan (donated by Grand Hotel).
If you are out of town and still want to bid on the above items, you can contact a Grand Canyon friend to assist you.
