To the editor:
Once again, the Grand Canyon community has come together to help out some of their own. Two school employees, Ina Zeena and Rudy Keebahe, have recently been facing some serious medical issues. On April 1, hundreds of community members attended a fundraiser held at the school. Over 400 Navajo taco dinners were sold and the baked goods table enjoyed a brisk business. A silent auction was also held that evening. Donating their time, energy or merchandise were Brandon Bettencourt, Café Tusayan, Canyon Plaza Resort, Clarinda Vail, Denise Gaebel, Don Kiel, Elsie Timeche, Food Mart, Freightliners, Geneva and Mel Martinez, IMAX, McDonald's, Mona Youyetewa, Red Feather Lodge, Tina Yazzie and lots of other volunteers.
That evening, the sale of raffle tickets began and will continue until the drawing is held on May 1. Prizes include dinners, gift certificates, movie passes, bowling parties, jewelry, apparel, and cash. Raffle prizes have been donated by Best Buy, Best Western Squire Inn, Chili's, Delaware North, Grand Hotel, Harkin's, La Fonda's, RP's Stage Stop, Unity Tech and Xanterra. Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5 and can be purchased at the Grand Canyon District or School offices.
