7/24/2012 9:08:00 AM Escalade appalls former Grand Canyon resident
To the editor:
I was so angry and appalled to read the recent article in the Williams-Grand Canyon News regarding the developer who wants to build an escalade in our Canyon.
Having been born and raised at the Grand Canyon, it has always held a special place in our hearts. We spent our happy childhood there and did not leave until we were in our 20s. To this day, my sisters and I look back and remember these days as the happiest time of our lives. Our folks, Sherman and Grace Moore continued to live there, our dad working for Fred Harvey as a guide into the Canyon and later as a park ranger, plus 30 years at the post office. It was a sad day for all of us to leave, but over the years, we have been back many times.
When God created the Grand Canyon and it was listed among the Seven Wonders of the World, I am sure He would not have intended for it to be defaced in such a manner, but its natural beauty left unscarred for all who have the privilege of seeing it, to enjoy. I sincerely hope that the National Park Service will not even consider such a plan.
To my estimation, it is just greed. Can anyone ever imagine an escalade, hotel or restaurant marring the beauty of such a place. Please do not even consider such a plan.
