GRAND CANYON, Ariz. - It has been nine years since the Lady Phantoms could boast about qualifying for the state tournament. Their bragging rights were put to an end on Friday against the number one ranked Salt River High School. The full court pressure of Salt River was the difference in the game as many of their points came off turnovers created by their pressure defense.

Although the Lady Phantoms were very proud of the season that they had, many felt that they could've played better against Salt River.

"I'm very proud of our girls and the season that we had, but we could've played a little bit better." Coach Dan Lopez said.

The Phantoms had 27 turnovers in the game. Many of them were unforced as the Phantoms looked rattled against the full court pressure. Even though they were outscored 18-3 in the third quarter, they never gave up. They were down by 23 points to start the fourth quarter and they made a nice run to cut the lead to 6 with three minuets to go. They never got closer than that.

Coach Lopez was thrilled with the play of senior Tiffany Kerr, who led the team with 18 points. Also, a pleasant surprise was the play of junior Kelsey Wren who had one of the best games of her career with 10 points.

"She really stepped up," Lopez said. "Hopefully all our underclassmen came away with a great experience that will be able to help us next year."

With a strong core returning next year, the Lady Phantoms look to be back at state for years to come.

"I'm happy with our season and I think the girls are too." Said Lopez.
