Rotary Dinner Dance this Saturday at the El Tovar

GRAND CANYON, Ariz. - This Saturday, Grand Canyon Rotary on the Rim will host their annual Holiday Dinner Dance. Doors open at 6 p.m at the El Tovar.

The evening of dancing, auctions and raffles will also feature specialty entrées from El Tovar Executive Chef Matt McTigue. Exit 64, a local band, will take care of the music.

"It's always such a wonderful event," Rotarian Clarinda Vail said.

This year, Rotarians will sell tickets for cash prizes ranging from $100 to $5,000. The tickets are $20 each and can be purchased from any Rotarian. There will only be 1,000.

This event is a major fundraising effort by Grand Canyon's Rotary on the Rim. Proceeds pay for local community grants, service projects and scholarships for students pursuing post-secondary learning.

Not only does Rotary organize the dinner dance, throughout the year the club arranges community cleanups, the annual Grand Canyon Easter egg hunt, chili cook-offs and community grants and scholarships. The club has also pledged to build the community ramada for the future school/community park in Tusayan.

"Rotary has committed to over $10,000 over the course of three years," Vail said. "We met last year's commitment and now we're working on this year's."

Dinner tickets are $50 each and are available from any Grand Canyon Rotarian, on EventBrite or by contacting Yvonne Trujillo at vonnee@netzero.net.

The Rotary Club has made arrangements with El Tovar Lodge and Red Feather Lodge for special room rates for this event. Rooms are available at the El Tovar Lodge by calling Dave Beckerleg at (928) 638-2526 ext.6390. Rooms are available at Red Feather Lodge by calling Trish Samples at (928) 638-7007 or email tsamples@redfeatherlodge.com and asking for the special Holiday Dinner Dance rate.
