GRAND CANYON, Ariz. - A team of teachers, parents and students, along with Grand Canyon Schools Superintendent Sharyl Allen will interview three finalists for the Grand Canyon Principal position this week.

Grand Canyon School Principal Marc Cooper recently resigned.

The candidates are Thomas Szabo, currently a science teacher in the Blue Ridge, Ariz. school system; Bryan Lords, an assistant principal with the Window Rock, Ariz. school system and Toby Melster, an assistant principal in the Montrose, Colo. school system.

The community is invited to join staff members during the following informal meet and greet times with each candidate. Thursday from 4:30- 5 p.m., Szabo will be available for an informal meet and greet, in the school library. Saturday from 8:30-9 a.m., Lords will be available for an informal meet and greet, in the school library. Melster will be available the same day from 9:15 - 9:45 a.m., also in the school library.

Grand Canyon Schools informational meetings

Grand Canyon Schools administration and teacher leaders will hold meetings in Valle, Tusayan and the Grand Canyon to discuss the cash donation agreement between the district and Stilo Development and what it will mean to Grand Canyon students and schools.

In addition, faculty members will be available to answer questions related to curriculum developments at the middle and high schools. In January, a team comprised of key faculty members recommended to the school board to eliminate the International Baccelaureate Middle Years Program. The Beyond MYP committee, comprised primarily of faculty, provided a comprehensive recommendation to the governing board, in April. The major elements of the recommendation were approved by the governing board.

According to school officials, those in attendance will learn more about how the cash donation agreement with Stilo supports the faculty recommendations.

The team will be at the Valle Airport on Tuesday from 6-7 p.m. The team will hold a meeting May 2 at 4:30 p.m. at the new Tusayan Town Hall and a third meeting inside the park May 3 from 6-7 p.m. at the Shrine of the Ages multi-purpose room.
