A gunfight a day does not keep the visitors away

The crowd gathers under the setting sun, breathless with anticipation. There are people from all walks of life, all nationalities and from many different countries, but they are all watching the same thing. Standing there, hemmed in by world travelers, Williams residents and a handful of curious children, are a number of burly cowboys in their boots and hats, leather and spurs. Their guns are drawn. They yell and shout and someone gets shot. Sometimes they even dance.

The world famous Cataract Creek Gang, known for their raucous, rambunctious behavior, performs each and every night in Williams. The locations change, but this free event is a delight for anyone who has ever wished to see a real gunfight in the streets of a western town - or at least as real as it gets. The same grizzled cowpoke may get shot two nights in a row, or even every night, but one thing is for sure, there is always a crowd. Gunfights begin each night at 7 p.m. Prior to the evening's battle, look along Route 66 for the Cataract Creek Gang's billboard, marking the location of the evening's melee.

Visitors to Williams, no matter what part of the world they started out from, will always find something interesting to do in Williams. There is an event each and every day. Whether it be gunfights, music from a distant era, steam engines or horse drawn carriages, something appealing can be found in the streets of this small town from morning to night. Parades, dazzling Fourth of July celebration and special events ranging from car shows, hiking excursions, rallies and fairs are the norm for this small hamlet nestled snugly against the Kaibab National Forest in northern Arizona.
