GRAND CANYON, Ariz. - Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics.
The students then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and world level. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other countries participate in the program.
For years, Grand Canyon School's Odyssey of the Mind program has helped hundreds of students learn teamwork and creative problem solving skills. The school's teams have also proved highly competitive but organizers need your help to keep the fun and learning going.
Here are some ways you can help:
help coach a team (the number of students who can participate is often limited by the number of coaches available);
adopt a team that already has a coach and facilitate 15 minutes or more per week of spontaneous problems for them (training will be provided if needed);
coordinate one or more of the fundraisers;
serve as the overall coordinator for the school;
help at the regional competition in Flagstaff in early March; and
help with publicity, getting donations, and/or writing thank you's to donors.
All those interested are invited to attend an informational meeting today at 5 p.m. at Grand Canyon School in the elementary building room 108 to learn more. If you can't make the meeting, please contact SuZan Pearce at email@example.com for more information. Bring a snack to share or just enjoy what others bring. Pass it on and invite a friend or co-worker.
