Xanterra to donate more than $13,000 worth of school supplies
Students in Grand Canyon and Williams schools will benefit from donation
Williams-Grand Canyon News

GRAND CANYON, Ariz. - Xanterra South Rim, operator of restaurants, lodges and other concessions in Grand Canyon National Park and Grand Canyon Railway in Williams, Ariz. are donating 600 backpacks filled with school supplies to families in need.

Xanterra personnel will gather tomorrow at the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park and Friday at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel to assemble 300 backpacks in each location. By donating these school supplies, Xanterra is supporting World Vision's School Tools program, which identifies students from families in need. World Vision and Xanterra personnel chose schools in areas where the company has operations in close proximity.

"We chose World Vision's School Tools program because it has a proven track record of putting educational tools in the hands of the children who need them most," said Bruce Brossman, regional director of sales and marketing for Xanterra South Rim and Grand Canyon Railway. "This program allows us to directly support the community where our employees work and live."

Grand Canyon Railway and Xanterra South Rim support many additional worthy causes and charities. The focus is on local first, due to the many needs of organizations in northern Arizona. The Grand Canyon Railway allocates one Polar Express run to local charities, sponsors a water stop on the annual Climb for the Cure in Flagstaff and provides a special charter to the local Veterans Hospital. Xanterra South Rim supports the Kaibab Learning Center, which provides affordable day care for park employees, gathers and distributes food and gifts during the holidays and donates countless overnight packages to charitable fundraisers.

"It is important that Xanterra support the local community through charitable actions, and we have brightened the spirits of many families in this region," said Brossman. "Many families would not be able to experience the Polar Express or the Grand Canyon train trip without our support for local organizations."

Similar donations are being made at schools near the company's Denver-area corporate offices and in the towns of Gardiner and West Yellowstone, Mont. just outside of Yellowstone National Park where Xanterra also has operations. In 2012 Xanterra will donate more than 2,200 backpacks worth $50,000. The company plans to donate the same amount of supplies in 2013.
