Runway to be repaired at Grand Canyon Airport
Routine maintenance will extend service life of runway
Williams-Grand Canyon News

TUSAYAN, Ariz. - The runway at the Grand Canyon Airport will undergo pavement repairs in July that will result in several closures of the runway, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation, which owns and operates the facility.

The closures will mainly occur overnight while crews seal cracks and apply a fresh coat of sealant to the runway. These projects are part of routine maintenance for the runway.

The first set of closures for crack sealing will occur on July 16-18. The runway will be closed overnight from 8 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. daily. The next set of closures will happen July 23-28 from 5 p.m. to 9:30 a.m. daily for seal coating and temporary striping.

The runway will remain open during the daytime while work is going on.

The final closure for permanent striping will occur on Aug. 13 when the runway will be closed for 24 hours.

These projects will help prolong the life of the runway and help facilitate safer take-offs and landings of aircraft at the airport.

A notice will be sent out to pilots before each closure and the runway will be marked with visual designators so pilots will know the runway is closed. These closures will not affect helicopter operations at the airport, only fixed-wing aircraft.
