North Kaibab Christmas Tree tags for sale

FREDONIA, Ariz - Christmas tree-cutting tags are now available for purchase from the North Kaibab Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest.

Tags cost $15 with a limit of one tree per household. They can be purchased Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the district office in Fredonia, or Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Kaibab Plateau Visitor Center through Dec. 20, in Jacob Lake. The Fredonia office will also be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 28.

If traveling to the Kaibab Plateau Visitor Center during inclement weather, call ahead to ensure it's open; (928) 643-7298.

Customers can mail in requests for Christmas tree tags, too. Mail requests should include the customer's name, $15 and a self-addressed stamped envelope. Requests sent to the Fredonia office should be addressed to: Christmas Tree Coordinator, North Kaibab Ranger District, P.O. Box 248 / 430 South Main Street, Fredonia, Arizona 86022. Expect 7 to 10 days to receive a permit by mail.

Christmas tree-cutting runs until December 24. Highway 67 will be closed at Jacob Lake on Nov. 30 but cutting areas may be accessed by Forest Service roads. Customers will be provided a map that shows what areas are authorized for cutting. Tree species available include blue and Englemann spruce, Douglas, subalpine and white fir, pinyon and ponderosa pine, and Utah and Rocky Mountain juniper.
