A falling tree branch hit and killed 27-year-old Danielle Marie Harris of Mesa, Ariz. last Saturday while she was sitting at a picnic table in a Supai Canyon campground.

Havasupai Nation Medical personnel responded and determined that Harris was dead.

Some of the branch also struck a 47-year-old male from Peoria, Ariz. who was standing next to the picnic table. An Arizona Department of Public Safety Air Rescue Helicopter flew the man to Flagstaff Medical Center for treatment on non-life-threatening injuries.

Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) investigators believe that high winds caused the large branch, approximately twelve inches in diameter, to break off and strike Harris, who suffered multiple injuries, including severe head trauma.

According to investigators, Harris was staying at the campground with nine other people, all from the greater Phoenix area.

Coconino County Sheriff's detectives are continuing this investigation.
